7 PAINTINGS 7 DAYS -- ART DASH CHALLENGE - DAY 1

Updated: Oct 21, 2024

As an artist, there's nothing quite like the rush of a creative challenge. The thrill of pushing boundaries, exploring new techniques, and immersing oneself fully in the artistic process is an experience like no other. This is precisely why I've decided to embark on a personal art challenge that I am thrilled to share with you all.

Day 1: Embarking on the Journey

Today marks the beginning of my seven-day art challenge - a daunting yet exhilarating prospect. Armed with my oil paints and brushes, I am diving headfirst into a world of colors, textures, and emotions. The wet-on-wet technique promises to add a dynamic element to each painting, capturing the essence of the moment with its blend of hues and movements. My usual process with oils normally a slow one, where I place layer after layer to eventually get a really good end result. The problem with this approach for me is time. With this challenge I hope to create fresh and vibrant paintings. Wish me Luck!

Oil Painting Day 1

Finding Inspiration in Daily Life

For my first painting I started with an antique sugar bowl and milk jug with grapes. It's a simple set up to get me started and I enjoyed working the form and moving wet paint around the canvas. It's is very freeing to complete a painting in one day. There is a freshness to it. I tried not to mess with it too much and declared it finished after about three hours.

The background is always a bit of a challenge in itself for me, so I chose a dark almost black with some red and then sprinkled over some green at the end as I felt it needed that complimentary color.

ONWARD TO DAY TWO!!
