Returning to the Sugar Bowl today and the grapes, which are really satisfying to paint. They are a safe bet and rewarding to look at. Bowls with designs are always a challenge. When I use the layering method of oil painting I usually draw in the design at the beginning stages. Then I use grey to paint in all the details before adding color. For this Alla-Prima, wet on wet technique, I just focus on light and shadow first making sure the form is rendered completely before intuitively adding the design pattern. I keep it simple and quick, to avoid giving it a labored feel to the work.
Happy with this one !
